Make the Most of the Giving Season

As the holiday season approaches you may find yourself wondering how you can make an impact on your community and the lives of others. A check or credit card is the simplest form of charitable gift. Your dollar can stretch farther than you ever thought possible so consider giving it to someone who needs it this holiday season. But money is just one of the many ways you’re able to give this year. Check out some more ideas down below!

Midlands Gives & Giving eCards

Midlands Gives donations are now accepted year-round! You can use the Midlands Gives website to find local nonprofits that match your passion and give directly to them through the website. The website’s easy check out process also allows you to give to multiple nonprofits at one time, rather than having to write separate checks or visit multiple websites.

Additionally, you can purchase a Giving eCard to gift to family and friends. The recipient gets to make a donation to the nonprofit of their choice on the Midlands Gives website.

Volunteering

Time is one of your most valuable resources! This holiday season, make it a priority to spend some time helping others. Volunteer at your local soup kitchen or elementary school. Your presence can make an impact in the lives of others.

Make a physical donation

Many of us have clothing and shoes around our house that we no longer wear or toys that are no longer played with. Consider bringing these items to a local shelter that supports those in need. Although these items may not have value to you anymore, they have the ability to make another person’s day a little bit better.

Give Life

Giving blood through the Red Cross costs nothing! It typically takes less than an hour and could potentially save a life. Be on the lookout for flyers and Facebook events regarding blood donation or contact the Red Cross.

Help out a classroom

Teachers find themselves in tighter school budgets than ever before. The result of this is many teachers having to spend their own money to have a clean and productive classroom. Consider getting together with some neighbors to go shopping for school supplies and donate the supplies to a classroom in need.

Cook a holiday meal

Many shelters provide holiday meals on or before Thanksgiving and Christmas. Round up your friends and family and provide a dish for the holidays, or even better, help serve the meal!
